Our Home Theater

This is HT version 3.2.  I originally setup a stereo TV (20 inch) with a stereo VCR and a Pioneer receiver (with 4 speakers). But that setup was some years ago. This replaced a 36 inch TV and 5.1 receiver, VCR and  DVD. As you can see by the rack, I still keep the equipment to a minimum.

The counter - shelf above the DVD storage (in the back) and three additional bar stools allows seating for another three people.

(In the photo above you can almost see the) Kenwood surround, and an Infocus DLP ScreenPlay 4800.  I mounted the projector using a modified TV wall mount (upside down). Cable TV is viewed through a VCR tuner, HD is through a tuner/DVD up-converter made by LG.

We decorated (of course) with a theater theme, which I think adds to the "Real Theater" feeling. The Goldberg reels (left) are a gift from a friend at work.

My wife and I remodeled the room in a weekend. I fished the wires through the walls and ceiling to minimize clutter.

We added the pub table to expand seating and its a great place to set a pizza box.

We looked for a long time to find a small popcorn popper.

The picture quality is really good now (see the image to the right) I have recently upgraded with HD.

I use a Logitech-Harmony 628  "activity based" remote. The coolest part about this remote is I program it through a Web Page interface over the Internet. The activity buttons allow for complete set-up of the equipment (even lights) with the push of ONE button.

Even the door to my office became part of the theater decorations.

Lighting is remote controlled by X-10.  I use an X-10 RF remote for normal control of lighting.

But I also use a IR to RF device  by X-10 that allowed me to program in light controls through the Logitech-Harmony remote. Not least of all I use X10's AHP (with the CM15A interface) and a Home Automation Computer. See: My Home Automation Page.

Also see the theater and some of my other Home Automation on my YouTube Channel.

Part of the fun of a home theater is going just a little over the top. I have a small bath off the theater. So I built-in a 13 inch TV and I remotely simulcast the theater to the restroom

I  use an IR remote extender with the "input" under the screen and the "output" at the equipment rack
